At present the Karachi Port has 30 dry berths and three liquid berths. Apart from this, there are six berths dedicated for country crafts. The average berth occupancy range is between 45-55%. The waiting time outside is almost zero. However, for seasonal cargo bunching of ships does take place. Nevertheless, all efforts are made to accommodate as many ships as possible without disturbing the timings of linear schedule vessels. The berth average occupancy at the oil piers is 50% and waiting period is zero except for tide constraints for vessel greater than 12 drafts.

Karachi port provide 24/7 safe navigation to the port traffic includes tankers, modern container vessels, bulk carriers and general cargo ships up to 75,000 DWT. The port has 30 dry cargo and 3 liquid cargo handling berths including a privately operated container terminal – Karachi International Container Terminal (KICT) which is fully equipped with all modern technologies. Karachi port is facilitating around 1600 ships annually while there is enough capacity to handle more cargo as the current occupancy is around 45% only.

The port is handling about 650,000 TEUs and 26 million tons of cargo per annum which includes:

Karachi Port has 30 dry cargo berths, 13 berths on West Wharves, 17 berth on East Wharves and 3 liquid cargo berths for POL & NON-POL products.

The port also has two container terminal named as Karachi International Container Terminal (KICT) and Pakistan International Container Terminal (PICT), both are operated by the private sector on BOT basis.

The port is also equipped with backed up system with good transit and storage areas, with rail and road services for handling, storage and clearance of cargo.

Karachi Port Trust operates two container terminals KICT (Karachi International Container Terminal) and PICT (Pakistan International Container Terminal) and one Silos terminal. They operate as one seamless and integrated facility. PICT and KICT are among the most advanced container terminals equipped with the state of the art gantries and other facilities.

Container terminal operators need to ensure that cargo is not damaged. KICT and PICT plans and ensures that the containers are not lost or damaged. Container move from KICT or PICT to KPT premises for de-stuffing, non PACS clearance and for cater additional space requirements.

KPT has three multipurpose oil terminals; OP-1, OP-2 and OP-3. These terminals have capability of handling crude oil, edible oil, chemicals, molasses etc. High safety precautions are implemented on these terminals.

KPT has broad range of cargo and container solutions and value added services. KPT has thirty dry cargo berths which handle bulk, break bulk and containers. The berths ranging from 1-17 are located at East Wharf, while the berths ranging from 18-30 are located at West Wharf.
